Middle/High School Learning Commons (Library) Assistant.
Start Date: August 9, 2026.
The Purpose of the MS/HS Learning Commons Assistant: To assist in the efficient functioning of the Middle/High School Library and to provide effective library service to all students and staff.
Qualifications:
- Preferred: 4-year BA/BS degree.
- Associate of Arts Degree or equivalent.
- Fluent English language capability.
- Computer and typing skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate successfully with students and teachers.
- Exemplary organizational skills.
Reports to:
- Middle/High School Librarian.
- Middle School or High School Principal.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Contributes to library and/or school-wide educational program, organization, and management:
- Contributes to and maintains assigned library records and files in a complete, up-to-date manner.
- Assists in the planning, creating, and distribution of library promotional activities and materials.
- Creates bibliographies, letters, purchase requests, and routine correspondence.
- Assists library patrons in locating, circulating, and using resources.
- Retrieves materials as requested by teachers and/or the librarian.
- Assists with the organization and management of all library and curricular areas as directed by the librarian.
- Maintains instructional materials as required.
- Prepares, compiles and copies instructional materials.
- Receives, checks, and processes new materials and equipment.
- Maintains materials and equipment.
- Organizes, schedules and circulates materials and equipment.
- Shelves materials returned to the MS/HS Library.
- Maintains a welcoming environment in the MS/HS Library.
- Assists with inventory and weeding procedures.
- Contributes to management of students’ behavior within and outside the MS/HS Library.
- Works with students to maintain an orderly atmosphere.
- Completes supervisory duties assigned to ensure the safety of students.
- Understands and exhibits good judgment in interpersonal and human relations with colleagues, students, and parents.
- Develops rapport with students.
- Promotes positive self-concept in students.
- Uses communications skills and conflict-resolution strategies to promote positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
- Helps direct library volunteers.
- Participates in other duties as assigned by the Librarian.
Terms of Employment:
Salary will be assigned from the Classified Salary Schedule; the contract term will be 190 days.
Learning and Growth:
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with school policy by the designated supervisor.
